Drivers in the U.S. are carpooling, taking public transport, and only filling their gas tanks with what they need in a bid to avoid being burnt by high prices at the pump. Gas sales fell 8.2% at the beginning of June, compared with the same time in 2021. This week, gas prices have shown a slight drop from $5 to $4.97 a gallon. In a bid to provide some balm for the $2-a-gallon raises the U.S. has seen this year, President Joe Biden requested a three-month federal gas tax holiday.

  • Biden officials hope such a move, as well as as slashing state gas tax, would lower gas by around $1 a gallon.
