Lorraine Kelly has opened up about her recent weight loss, revealing that dropping two dress sizes and losing 1.5 stone, has left her "feeling happier and healthier".

The breakfast host revealed she had joined WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, after she found herself "comfort eating" during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw her weight creep up.

“I comfort ate and would just find myself hovering around the biscuit tin and the fridge for all sorts of goodies," she told Express.

"It started off quite small but ended up being huge! I was going through packets of biscuits and unhealthy grub.

“I wasn't doing as much exercise and mindlessly eating, just eating for the sake of eating. Now I’ve got much more of a balance.”

The TV presenter says she actually found her weight loss "dead easy", explaining that she switched up her diet and fitness regime by making sure she did 10,000 steps a day.

“It isn’t a stupid, silly diet because diets don’t work, as we know," she says. "It’s just about making little changes.

“We all know what is good for us, we all know what we are supposed to eat, so it is about getting that balance right.

"I'm not bored or miserable and thinking about food all the time, just eating well.”

As well as batch making vegetable soap for lunch, Kelly has one other weight loss trick to share – ditching the food guilt.

The star advised not "beating yourself up if you do have a chocolate biscuit" because "it’s not the end of the world!"

"There is nothing wrong with having a biscuit with a cup of tea, it’s fine, it’s just about getting the balance,” she adds.

The presenter says she now feels “happier, healthier and more confident” at her “ideal” weight.

Kelly previously opened up about going up "two dress sizes" during lockdown, which she attributed to comfort eating and not keeping as fit as usual.

"During the pandemic, I started comfort eating and that was my downfall – comfort eating and not being able to go to my fitness classes," she told the Mirror.

"When those classes stopped I started eating far too much – it was things that I would probably never bother with. Like I wanted muffins, I wanted croissants, I wanted doughnuts.

"All of these things that you know you shouldn’t be having and you think it’s making you feel better at the time and it doesn’t. And so slowly, slowly, slowly over the past couple of years, I’ve gone from a size 10 to a size 14…"

The weight gain ended up undermining the presenter's confidence.

"At the moment, even if I was invited to a red carpet event, I just wouldn't have the confidence to go," she continued.

"Not even if George Clooney was waiting for me naked with a rose between his teeth."

Back in March Kelly gave an update on her weight loss journey after joining WW in the hope of being the "best version" of herself since gaining some weight in lockdown.

Five weeks into her diet plan, Kelly shared with fans on Instagram that she was feeling happier and healthier than ever after ticking off her goals.

She reposted a message from her WW mentor, who said: "This is what success looks like! Massive well done to Lorraine, not only have you achieved your half stone but you've lost a whopping ELEVEN pounds!

"Three pounds for a stone! Weight Watchers UK and I are super proud. What a fantastic journey you're having."

Last year the breakfast host shared her health worries with fans following her lockdown weight gain, revealing in a post on Twitter that she felt "unhealthy" and "tired with no stamina".

"Anyone else feeling tired with no stamina? Apart from taking [her dog] Angus for a walk, I’m not exercising enough. Comfort eating and gone up 2 dress sizes," she wrote.

"Feeling unhealthy - need a kickstart in New Year. I’ve always said no to diets but any sensible suggestions?"

On This Morning last year, she said "I don't think diets work", before noting that "portion control and not snacking so much are important, as well as being sensible".

The TV star has also opened up about the topic to The Sun's Fabulous magazine, revealing: "I have learned the hard way that daft diets will ultimately make you fat.

"I do tend to eat sensibly during the week, but I certainly don't exist on sticks of celery, because I'd be miserable.

"We are all far more likely to stick to a healthy eating plan if we have proper tasty food, and won't drop out of an exercise routine if it's good fun."
