Vellayan Subbiah, chairman of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance (Chola), was named ‘EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023’. He will represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo in June this year. Natarajan Chandrasekaran from Tata Sons received the Special Jury Award, and Venu Srinivasan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
A nine-member independent jury, chaired by K V Kamath, former chairman of ICICI Bank, selected the most compelling success stories from a pool of hundreds of nominations. The finalists have been selected from over 250 nominations.
Subbiah, who is also the executive vice-chairman of Tube Investments of India, has won the prestigious award for his bold business strategies. Subbiah will represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award (WEOY) in Monte Carlo from June 4 to 7, 2024.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, was honoured with the Special Jury Award for his outstanding leadership of the Tata Group and contributions to nation-building. His bold strategies strengthened core businesses, fostered group synergies, and doubled the Tata Group’s market capitalisation from $170 billion to $365 billion.
The 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Venu Srinivasan, chairman Emeritus of TVS Motor Company, was recognised for his entrepreneurial excellence in revolutionising the two-wheeler industry in India.
The chief guest, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, honoured Subbiah, Chandrasekaran, Srinivasan, and the EOY 2023 category winners: Lalit Keshre (Groww), Sanjay Gupta (APL Apollo Tubes Ltd.), Anand Deshpande (Persistent Systems), Rafique A. Malik (Metro Brands Ltd.), Shahid Bilakhia (Micro Life Sciences), Deepinder Goyal (Zomato), and Team ICICI Bank (CEO Sandeep Bakhshi, executives Sandeep Batra, Rakesh Jha).
