Newcastle-born Laura revealed she she cut one item from her diet, and this attributed to her slimmer frame.

Laura was drinking 1,700 calories per day of Coke.

This adds up to four litres of the drink.

The NHS recommends a maximum of 7.2 teaspoons of sugar a day for women, but Laura was having 106.

By drinking four litres of Coke a day Laura was packing on a pound of fat every two days, a potential 15 pounds gained a month.

Laura told the Mirror: “I had been addicted since I was a teenager.

”At its worst, I used to drink two-litre bottles of Coke a day. I know now how much sugar is in it."

She revealed how asking her partner to go out to buy Coke for her made her realise she relied too much on the fizzy drink.

“One day I was at home in my pyjamas and I wanted him to go to the off-licence to get me some Coke. I think he just thought it had gone too far,” she explained.

“It was so much caffeine, so much sugar, so bad for your teeth. I think I am lucky I still have a tooth in my head.

“You get a bit older and weight is harder to lose. Then I cut the Coca-Cola out and started to notice the difference and then just decided to keep it up.”

Weight loss: Doctor provides list of 'belly bloater' foods to avoid

The NHS said of fizzy drinks: “Fizzy drinks, squashes and juice drinks can contain lots of added sugar and very few nutrients, so keep them to a minimum. Children should avoid them completely.

“A high sugar content means a drink is also high in calories, which can contribute towards you becoming overweight.

“Cutting down on these drinks is a good way of reducing the number of calories you consume while not missing out on any nutrients.”

Laura is not the only soap star to lose a lot of weight recently.

Coronation Street's Katie McGlynn lost a stone following co-star Catherine Tyldesley’s plan.

Coronation Street actress Sue Cleaver lose three stone on the Mediterranean diet.

The NHS said: “The Mediterranean diet varies by country and region, so it has a range of definitions.

“But in general, it's high in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, beans, cereals, grains, fish, and unsaturated fats such as olive oil.

“It usually includes a low intake of meat and dairy foods.”
