Senate to hold crypto, blockchain regulatory hearings featuring Circle CEO

Regulatory issues surrounding digital currencies and blockchain will take center stage on Tuesday as the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs holds an open hearing featuring Jeremy Allaire, chairman and CEO of Circle, who will be representing The Blockchain Association.

Allaire has long advocated changes to existing regulations involving cryptocurrencies and blockchain, including the recognition that crypto assets cannot be properly managed based on the use of 20th Century laws that were designed for a much different set of financial assets.

The hearing, entitled "Examining Regulatory Frameworks for Digital Currencies and Blockchain," will also feature Rebecca Nelson, a specialist in international trade and finance at the Congressional Research Service and Mehrsa Baradaran, a professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Law.
