If you have been struggling with weight, you know that it is not only important to shed those kilos to look better but also to avoid some diseases that come packaged with obesity. Sadly, most people wait for that one hard blow before they start working on their health. Something similar happened with 20-year-old Prerak Kalra. When he started his college, he felt under confident and had low self-esteem because of his weight.
It was then when he decided to change his lifestyle once and all. He went from 126 kilos to 90 kilos in a span of 1.5 years. Read his inspiring journey below.
Name: Prerak Kalra
Occupation: Student
Age: 20 years
Height: 5”7
Highest weight recorded: 126.5 kilos
Weight lost: 30 kilos
The duration it took me to lose weight: 1.5 years
The turning point: My weight was not a problem for me until I joined college. In school I wasn't bothered about how I looked but college changed things. I used to see other students dressing up nicely and looking fit and I wanted to be like them too. Also, bullying becomes inevitable when you are obese.
My breakfast:
2 egg white omelette with 1 brown bread
My lunch: 1 cup brown rice with lots and lots of veggies
My dinner: 250 grams of grilled chicken
I indulge in: I love eating butter chicken and can’t miss to have it on my cheat days. So, for me cheat days = butter chicken.
My workout: I rest for one day and workout for six days in a week.
Pre and post-workout meals: I take black coffee before my workout to increase my strength and I eat chicken after my workout.
Fitness secrets I unveiled:Weight loss is no secret, it’s the result of your patience and hard work. Staying away from cravings and eating a well-balanced diet is the mantra to lose weight.
How do I stay motivated? There is nothing more motivating than looking at my old pictures and my transformation. It really empowers me.
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? By continuously indulging in more fitness programmes and staying with motivated and positive people.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? Low stamina and not getting fit into clothes of my choice.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I see myself having a lean and fit body.
What are the lifestyle changes you made?
I have quit drinking coca cola and replaced it with green tea. I think this the healthiest choice I have made till date.
What was the lowest point for you?
While most kids are super excited about the first day of their college, I was under-confident and had low self-esteem due to my weight. I felt really low and sad on this day.
