Goa, India, is not particularly known for its wildlife parks compared to some other regions of India. However, there are a few wildlife sanctuaries and parks in and around Goa where visitors can explore the natural biodiversity. From the lush forests of the Western Ghats to the tranquil backwaters and mangrove-lined rivers, Goa's diverse ecosystems teem with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Adventurers can embark on wildlife safaris, trekking expeditions, and bird watching excursions to discover the hidden treasures of the region.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the eastern part of Goa near the border with Karnataka, this sanctuary is one of the largest protected areas in the state. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including species like the leopards, deer, monkeys, and various bird species.

Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated in the foothills of the Western Ghats, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. It's known for its lush greenery and houses a mini zoo, botanical gardens, and a deer safari park. Visitors can spot animals like deer, and a variety of bird species.

Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in South Goa, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its dense forest cover and diverse wildlife. It's particularly famous for its treetop watchtowers from where visitors can observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Animals like Indian bison, wild boars, monkeys, and various species of birds can be spotted here.

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is located in eastern Goa and covers an area of approximately 211 square kilometres. It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare medicinal plants, mammals, reptiles, and bird species. The sanctuary is characterised by lush forests, sparkling streams, and picturesque waterfalls, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in northern Goa near the Karnataka border, is a part of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its biodiversity. Spanning over an area of approximately 208 square kilometres, the sanctuary is characterised by its rugged terrain, dense forests, and pristine waterways. It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including endangered species such as Bengal tigers, leopards, and sloth bears, as well as numerous bird species.

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Situated along the Mandovi River in North Goa, the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Named after the renowned Indian ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali, the sanctuary is spread across approximately 1.8 square kilometres of mangrove forests and wetlands. It is home to a diverse array of resident and migratory bird species, including kingfishers, herons, egrets, and numerous species of waders.
