Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes says his steakhouse will have menu item named for Andy Reid

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was at the 101 Awards on Friday night at the Loews Kansas City hotel.

An upscale steakhouse is coming to that hotel, which is at 1515 Wyandotte St. Mahomes and teammate Travis Kelce are collaborating with the Las Vegas-based hospitality group Noble 33 to open the restaurant 1587 Prime early next year.

Mahomes said at the 101 Awards that he wants to make sure that Chiefs fans aren’t priced out of eating at the restaurant.

“We actually thought about that and we don’t want to make it too upscale, too high price, that not everybody can go, so we’re gonna make it a place where hopefully Kansas City can call it home and that everybody can be there and really enjoy it,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes’ relationship with steaks changed during his first season as the Chiefs starting quarterback in 2018. As he piled up touchdown passes and became a national sensation, Mahomes became aware that he was being watched when dining out.

An ESPN story that year noted Mahomes’ love of ketchup but that he didn’t want to ask for the condiment at a KC steakhouse for fear of looking bad.

Mahomes won’t have to ask at 1587 Prime.

“I’ve already seen the menu, I can’t give away too many things. A lot of great stuff, though. A few of my favorites. Ketchup will be there,” Mahomes said to laughs.

“Hopefully we can win some games at Arrowhead Stadium and then we get to go over and have a few drinks and food with it.”

Mahomes was asked if there would be a corndog on the menu in honor of the play call that has helped the Chiefs in the past two Super Bowls.

Sure, Mahomes wants to make the upscale restaurant for fans, but let’s be honest, corndogs might cross a line for a steakhouse.

“I’m not a big corndog fan myself, but I mean I do like the play so we’re gonna have to maybe have some words (of plays) in there and maybe get it a little bit similar to that,” Mahomes said.

“We will definitely have the Andy Reid cheeseburger on there. That’ll for sure be on there.”

Mahomes was responsible for Whataburger coming to the Kansas City area and he relishes the thought of people enjoying a good steak and beverage at 1587 Prime.

“Me and Travis have been working on that for a while. We’re always together, we’re always at these restaurants and we have a love for bringing people together,” Mahomes said. “And I think the biggest thing for us is we’re going to do whatever we can to keep bringing people together, and what better place in Kansas City than around a steakhouse?”
