CARE Hospitals Bhubaneswar Launches Non-Surgical Weight Loss Procedure Program First Time in the Odisha

Bhubaneswar: CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar today announced the launch of a Non-Surgical Weight Loss Procedure Program (ESG) led by Dr. Mohit Bhandari who has performed more than 11000 Bariatric Surgeries and has operated in more than 70 countries that have gained him national and international attention in the presence of Shree Naba Kishore Das, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Odisha. Dr.Bhandari has trained more than 500 surgeons for performing bariatric surgeries. In 2012, Dr.Bhandari performed the first documented obesity surgery in Asia, operating on an Asian women weighing 350 kg. He also performed bariatric surgery on a 6-year-old boy in 2013, the youngest person on record to receive such surgery in India.Dr.Bhandari entered the Limca Book of Records in 2015by performing25 bariatric surgeriesin an 11-hour period, performing the feat with the help of a 40 person team. He is known for his work in laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery. Dr. Mohit Bhandari was one of the first to perform robotic bariatric surgery in India. He is also the first in India to perform Single anastomosis duodenal-Ileal Switch. Bhandari is also the youngest surgeon to perform 8000+ bariatric surgeries as well as 10500+ robotic surgeries.
Speaking on the occasion Shree Naba Kishore Das, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Odisha said, “Health care sector has developed tremendously. Today Dr. Mohit has come to Care hospital. I came to know from him that this program is going to be very beneficial for the people. Previously people use to go out of Odisha to avail this facility. But now they can get the facility of metabolic surgery or the Non-Surgical Weight Loss in Odisha itself. In fact the diabetic people can also get befits of this facility. This is a matter of pride for Odisha and I Welcome Dr. Bhandari and my govt is ready for all kind of support to him in this cause”.
Addressing a Media Briefing on Saturday at CARE Hospitals Bhubaneswar by Dr. Mohit Bhandari Consultant Obesity and Bariatric Surgeon said “Obesity is a growing problem, making half of the population overweight. Millions are suffering from severe obesity issues, Obesity is a major cause of premature death and leads to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, sleep apnea, degenerative joint disease and many others. We are addressing obesity with modern treatment strategies, research and upgradation. We are educating patients about the problem and help them getting the best solution. Equal emphasis is laid on their safety and comfort, to make their weight loss journey smooth and effective. Globally today, an estimated 1.5 billion adults are overweight or obese and this is expected to rise to more than 3 billion people by 2030. India today has over 30 million people with obesity and this is expected to rise to 70 million by 2025.”
